Abandoned!

Have you ever wondered about the buildings you walk past everyday? You know, your office building, maybe the abandoned building down the street, or maybe even the house that you live in. Everyone knows that the building is there, but what is its story. Who built it, how long did it take, why was it abandoned, who lived there, was it destroyed in a fire, did lightening strike the structure? Coming from a construction background I always thinks about these things when I shot abandoned buildings.

Sherri and I were out in West Greene County last week scouting out locations. I am pretty sure that we traveled every back road, both dirt and asphalt, on this outing. There were many abandoned buildings, barns, and other structures, but this one is a gem. Thank goodness for longitude and latitude coordinates, because I would never find this place again.

I really wanted to walk inside this building, but I decided not to because of the overall condition. It looked like it could fall over at anytime.

  1. I can’t stop looking at this picture wondering who built this cabin, what their lives were like, etc. I wonder just how old it is. Then there’s just the amazing light, the reflection in the water, moss floating on top, etc. I don’t think I could have resisted entering. Someone needs to take it apart piece by piece and restore it.
